No essays. 2026 updates
Look who’s using today’s newsletter to do what newsletters were always meant to be 😃. We’re halfway through 2026 and it’s definitely been an interesting year for sure. Life has been good. Thought sharing some updates would be nice.
Growing Odd Nigeria to 5k this year. If you can recall, we hit 1,000 subs in February 2026, just in time for our first year goals to be achieved (1000 subs). We’ve continued to tell stories, and I’m working on a couple fun and intriguing videos right now (stopped to write this newsletter). AMVCA week gave us our first 100k+ YouTube shorts and our third 100k+ TikTok videos. Our first video of the year—our mini-doc about Lagos’ (d)evolution from 1960 to 2026, has reached 10,000 views.
As of publishing, Odd Nigeria sits at 1,710 subscribers.
You can make it 1711 here.Plan to grow substack this year to 500-1000 subscribers, but sometimes I don’t know if I really do want that many people reading Nomadic. Feels perfect right now. Every view or comment is from someone I know personally with whom I can continue the conversation long after hitting publish. The good news though, is that my goal helped me become active again a couple months ago and it’s been nice to exercise that muscle. Beyond that I guess we keep digging for diamonds wondering if we truly want them.
I wanted to grow storied craft to an obscene number that I would now rather not say. However, I think I’m postponing that goal indefinitely just to avoid stretching myself too thin. We still have great things in store for the community and we’ve kept it active with a couple posts this year.
I had goals to secure some opportunities alongside creative work and they’ve come true. More details by December 2026. In the meantime, I worked on
-TRUST the Process, a brainchild of Joseph, a fashion designer and culture architect behind -TRUST. The whole point of this series is as the name implies. It’s easy to get tired of the process of becoming anything, but it helps when people further along in that process share their experiences. For our first episode, we spoke to the producer behind Ckay’s number 1 2025 hit “BODY”.You can catch the episode 1 here.
Haven’t shot my film yet. We are in the hands of God almighty.
That’s all for today’s newsletter.
Curious to see how your own goals for 2026 have been going so far. If you’re not shy, share a little about it with me in the comments (or as a response to this email) and let’s keep ourselves accountable even though it never works because nobody can flog us.
PS: Didn’t proofread this. Wrote it in a frenzy. Edit it for me ❤️
